Agriclub Le Giare owes its existence to the entrepreneurial spirit of Pasquale Placido, whose grandfather was of one of the most highly respected lawyers of Naples and a senator. In 1960 he took over the land owned by his mother, Baroness Giovanna Catizzone of Calabria, and turned it into a modern farm, extending the olive and citrus groves, planting vineyards, and creating one of the area's most appreciated pig farms.
In the late 1970s he realized that as the property was so close to the sea, it could be an ideal solution for people seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city in an uncontaminated natural environment, a place where they could meet other people who enjoy the same kind of alternative holiday. In 1980 the first guest bungalows were converted from old hay barns, granaries and stables.
New bungalows were built, and Pasquale's daughters, Vanna and Marinella, gradually took over management. Pasquale continues to assist his daughters in their work and constantly comes up with new ideas. The family's latest innovations (in 1997) are: an olive grove of 4,000 trees and – an ideal complement – the farm's very own oil mill.
